For centuries the hill close to Gostyń was called the ‘Holy Mountain’. The first comment about it comes from 1468- a note says that a there was a chapel of Holy Virgin Mary on the Holy Mountain.
On the main altar, there is a painting of the Holy Virgin Mary with a child and a rose in Jesus’ hand. The sanctuary is solemn and has a rich interior. Around an octagonal nave, there is a passage with chapels. The nave ends with a Pompeo Ferrari dome. On its walls, there are scenes from the life of St. Philip painted by a Silesian painter George Wilhelm Neunhertz.
John XXIII selected The Holy Mountain as Poland’s second Holy Virgin Mary capital after Częstochowa.
