Odsłonięcie pomnika miało miejsce 3 listopada 1963. Jest on dziełem architekta Wiktora Tolkina.  Główny element pomnika tworzy stylizowana flaga. Mozaiki na ścianach i masywne płaskorzeźby żołnierzy to symbole tysiąclecia tradycji oręża polskiego na Pomorzu. Na płytkach kamiennych, które leżą u podnóża pomnika, upamiętniono wszystkie jednostki, które zdobywały miasto w 1945 roku. Prześwit pod pomnikiem symbolizuje "okno na świat", czyli port.

The monument is from the 3rd November 1963. It is a work of the architect Victor Tolkin. The main element of the monument is a flag. Mosaics on the walls and massive carvings of soldiers are symbols of the Polish military tradition in Pomerania. The stone plates which are in front of the monument commemorated all the units, which won the city in 1945. Ground clearance under the statue symbolizes the "window to the world" - harbor.
