Urban development of the oldest part of Nowy Tomyśl is especially worth seeing. It consists of two markets: the bigger one – Niepodległości Square and the smaller one – Chopin Square, which are connected with the Mickiewicz Street.
Originally the city also embraced few other streets adjacent to both squares. In this oldest part of the city there are several well preserved buildings mostly from the second part of the 19th and from the beginning of the 20th century. In the Chopin Square there is the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church built in the years 1778-1779 as a protestant church. It is a brick and plastered building in the form of a Greek cross with all arms of equal length.
