St. Hedwig Bastion is a remnant of the Habsburg defences. Prussians rebuilt it, adding the two-story stone and brick dungeon preserved to this day and partially covered by embankment surrounding pentagonal outer courtyard.
In 1870, the bastion was a prison for hundreds of French prisoners of war, then served as barracks. Located in the city centre, it has undergone extensive renovation, which released to its unique beauty to the world. Since 2008, the courtyard has witnessed music and dance events, openings, open-air exhibitions, while the interior conceals an exhibition of paintings, sculptures and a gift shop. The tourist route runs through historic corridors, and is part of a long trail going through ancient fortifications of the great Nysa fortress.
