Warsaw is a city you can explore on the move. Cycle along the Vistula, run through leafy parks, paddle across the river or spend a summer afternoon on an urban beach. Many of these places are within easy reach of the city centre, so adding some outdoor activity to a city break is surprisingly simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With more than 500 km of cycle routes, extensive green spaces and the Vistula running through the city, Warsaw offers plenty of ways to combine sightseeing with time outdoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

See Warsaw by bike<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Cycling is one of the easiest ways to explore Warsaw.<\/strong> The city’s network of cycle routes connects the centre with parks, neighbourhoods and the riverside. If you do not bring your own bike, the Veturilo<\/strong> public bike system offers rentals at stations across the city. Check the Veturilo website<\/a> for current availability and a map of stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a first ride, head towards the Vistula. On the left bank, the riverside route passes some of Warsaw’s best-known sights, including the Multimedia Fountain Park, the University of Warsaw Library and the Copernicus Science Centre. Continue south and you can reach Royal \u0141azienki Park, Wilan\u00f3w and Powsin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cross the river and the scenery changes. The right bank is largely natural, with riverside woodland, sandy beaches and a protected Natura 2000 area. Where can you run in Warsaw?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You do not have to leave the city centre to find a good running route. Pole Mokotowskie<\/strong> is a popular choice, while Skaryszewski Park<\/strong> offers wide paths, ponds and plenty of greenery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a longer run, head to Bielany Woods<\/strong> in the north or Kabaty Woods<\/strong> in the south. Prefer a city view? Follow the Vistula and look back towards the skyline from the quieter right bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Warsaw also has a busy running calendar. The Warsaw Marathon<\/strong>, held since 1979, is one of the city’s best-known sporting events. The 48th edition takes place on 27 September 2026<\/strong>, with a 42.195 km route. The same day, runners can also take part in the Nice To Fit You Warsaw 10K. Get on the water<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Vistula is one of Warsaw’s most distinctive places for outdoor recreation. During the warmer months, you can rent a kayak or SUP board<\/strong>, join a river cruise or simply walk along the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a more urban experience, stay on the left bank. The Vistula Boulevards are lined with caf\u00e9s, terraces and places to stop and watch the river. Seasonal free ferries also connect selected points on both sides of the Vistula, when conditions allow. (go2warsaw.pl<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For nature, head to the right bank. Its sandy beaches, woodland and river islands feel surprisingly far from a capital city. You do not need to plan a full day here. A morning bike ride, an hour on the water or an evening walk can easily fit into a sightseeing itinerary.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Beaches, parks and outdoor sports<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Looking for a slower way to spend time outdoors? Warsaw’s riverside beaches are an easy addition to a summer city break. Poniat\u00f3wka<\/strong> and Rusa\u0142ka<\/strong> are among the better-known spots, with room for beach volleyball, badminton and simply relaxing by the river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Away from the Vistula, parks provide space for running, walking and informal sport. Outdoor gyms are available in many parts of the city, alongside tennis courts, sports pitches, skateparks, swimming pools and climbing centres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are options outside the summer season, too. Szcz\u0119\u015bliwicki Park<\/strong> has an artificial ski slope, while ice skating is available at several venues around Warsaw. The city changes with the seasons, but opportunities to stay active do not disappear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Find a sporting event during your stay<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you like watching sport as much as taking part, check what is happening while you are in Warsaw. The city’s calendar includes running races, cycling events and other competitions throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official Warsaw events calendar<\/a> lets you search by date, category and location. It is worth checking before your trip \u2013 you may find a race, sporting event or outdoor activity taking place close to where you are staying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to plan an active day in Warsaw<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You do not need to choose between sightseeing and sport. They can easily fit into the same day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a first visit:<\/strong> cycle along the Vistula and combine the ride with the Copernicus Science Centre, the Vistula Boulevards or Royal \u0141azienki Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a morning run:<\/strong> choose Pole Mokotowskie or Skaryszewski Park if you want to stay close to the centre. For a longer, greener route, try Bielany or Kabaty Woods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
