peasant cottage interior

Moving away from major tourist hot spots allows encountering and discovering genuine and original places.  Zalipie is considered Poland's prettiest, most picturesque village. Colorful cottages adorned with vibrant hand-painted flowers win visitors' hearts. The Painted Cottage contest has been held regularly since 1948, thanks to which newly painted flowers are added to cottage walls, continuing a tradition over 100 years old. Despite its beauty and attractiveness to tourists, the village is modest, genuine, in no way commercial. Zalipie is not an open-air museum but a place where people lead everyday lives, creating and cultivating their tradition and heritage. As a piece of trivia, Zalipie’s distinctive look served as an inspiration for the peasant cottages in the popular Witcher game series.
