The Wawel Royal Castle is one of the most recognized castles in Poland and hallmarks of Kraków. The former royal seat of Polish kings holds the title of one of the first UNESCO World Heritage Site. Established in the first half of the 11th century, the complex was given its distinctive Gothic look in the 14th-century. The beating heart of Poland's cultural capital is now a museum containing five separate sections: Crown Treasury and Armory, State Rooms, Royal Private Apartments, Lost Wawel, and the Exhibition of Oriental Art.
