TWO VIADUCTS IN STAŃCZYKI

TWO VIADUCTS IN STAŃCZYKI – NORTH AQUEDUCTS

Some of the highest bridges in Poland are located in Stańczyki. Years ago, the North Bridges, also called The Romincka Forest Bridges, were a part of Gołdap – Żytkiejmy train route, providing an exceptional observation deck to travelers. In their form, the Bridges resemble aqueducts, built in ancient times by the Romans, so that is why they are commonly referred to as the Romincka Forest Aqueducts. They were most likely designed by Italian architects in 1905.

The northern bridge was built in the years 1912-1914, and the southern one in the years 1923-1926. The viaducts are built above a small Błędzianka river, and they are built out of reinforced concrete. The Gołdap – Żytkiejmy route was in operation only for a dozen of years: from 1926 to 1944. The tracks were not even laid on the southern bridge.

Nowadays, the bridges are a private property, one of them was renovated, and you have to pay to visit it.
