The Wawel Royal Castle is one of the most recognized castles in Poland and probably appears on more postcards than any other. This iconic royal setting is located in Krakow and holds the title of the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in the world. This extraordinary sanctuary determines the Poles’ identity and is their national and cultural symbol.

Established in the first half of the 11th-century, the former pre-Romanesque complex was given its distinctive Gothic feel in the 14th-century. The beating heart of Poland’s cultural capital is now a museum containing five separate sections: Crown Treasury and Armory, State Rooms, Royal Private Apartments, Lost Wawel and the Exhibition of Oriental Art.
