Krzyztopor Castle is one of Europe’s most unique castles and acts as a magnificent testament to the imagination of eccentric governor Krzysztof Ossoliski.

Built during the 1600s, the castle incorporated Ossoliński love of magic and astrology. Designed to reflect the calendar, the castle boasts four towers representing the four seasons, 12 halls for the 12 months of the year, 52 rooms for the 52 weeks, and 365 windows for 365 days – plus one to be used only during leap years. Rumour also has it that a 15km tunnel ran under the manor and led to the castle owned by Ossoliński’s brother. It is said that the floor of the tunnel was covered with sugar so the two brothers could visit each other on horse-drawn sledges, pretending they were travelling on snow.
