The Media World Cup Series Poland – journalists competition
The Media World Cup Series Poland 2017 will be the first edition of a cycle of events where journalists from around all over the world will compete in mountain and road cycling and in triathlon. The objective is to promote Polish tourist attractions during sports competitions.
The first edition of the cycle will be focused around three cities - on 11-14 May the mountain cycling competition in Lidzbark Warmiński, on 25-28 May the road cycling in Przemyśl and between 13 and 15 July triathlon will be held in Baranów Sandomierski. The female and male competitors will be divided into three age groups - below 30, from 31 to 45 and above 46.
"So far, the willingness to participate in our competitions was reported by the persons in the range of 24 to 46 years old. However, there is no age limit" - said Mariusz Herman, organiser of the Media World Cup Series Poland 2017.
As he added, invitations were sent to more than 300 journalists representing over 20 countries. They can express interest in participation in the project until 15 April and after this date the entries will undergo verification. Registration fee for one event is EUR 150.
"So far many Italians have registered their participation, there are also the Dutch, Belgians and Norwegians. We also have Americans and Japanese as well as persons from South Africa and Brazil" - he listed.
Herman emphasized that the initiative was so popular on the international stage that there were even offers of cooperation. "Representatives of Trondheim offered the place to organise competitions in cross-country skiing. However, we want to focus on Poland. Will we expand our future offer with winter sports? For the time being, the all disciplines proposed by us are linked by a bicycle" - he stressed.
The captain of Polish journalists representation will be Dariusz Baranowski, the three time winner of the Tour de Pologne, currently TV commentator. The Olympic vice-champion from Seoul and team world vice-champion from Chambery, Andrzej Sypytkowski, is also involved in the project.
"During the professional races, cyclists have no time to admire views and tourist attractions. Media World Cup Series Poland 2017 provides such an opportunity" - emphasised Baranowski.
However, promotion of the regions where the competitions will be held is the primary objective of the project. Herman stressed that for the occasion of the Media World Cup Series Poland 2017, feasts will be organised, with music and menu of local delicacies and additional attractions in the form of e.g. a yacht cruise and sailing regattas.
The Honorary auspices of the Media World Cup Series Poland 2017 were taken by Dawid Lasek, Secretary of state in the Ministry of Sport and Tourism. He hopes that the events will help the invited guests to discover "gems" of the Polish tourism.
Herman informed that the contract with representatives of the event-host cities had been signed for five years.
