Fat Thursday in Poland! Got pączki?!
As in other countries that celebrate the last day before lent, Poland has its own tradition known as Fat Thursday. With sweets forbidden for the next 40 days many people are indulging in sweet and gluttonous celebration. For many of us this probably sounds like the best celebration ever! So, what's worth trying?
Poland's favorite pastries on Fat Thursday, are "paczki" (deep-fried doughnuts filled with rose jam or other marmalades) glazed or powder sugar coated, topped with chocolate or candied orange peel.
Another favorite are "faworki" – tangled dough ribbons, fried until crispy and sprinkled with powdered sugar.
This year's national paczki day is happening on February 8th. Be sure to remember about your guilt-free (because it's important tradition) pleasure!
