A huge castle built in the late 13th century.

Ksiaz Castle in Walbrzych is one of the largest historic buildings in Poland (with an area greater than 160,000m²). Ksiaz Castle is beautifully situated in the bend of the River Pelcznica on a rocky promontory. The whole complex is located in the Ksiaz Landscape Park. It was built in the late 13th century by the Swidnica-Jawor Prince Bolko I Surowy. Over the next century the fortress changed hands frequently but the biggest impact on its present shape had the baronial family of Hochberg, who owned it for over 400 years and later owning the estates of the Duchy of Pszczyna. All possible styles were preserved in the architecture of the building. The fact that it has over 400 rooms is indicative of its size, of which the grandest are Maximilian’s Hall with its richly decorated ceiling, the Chinese Salon, the Italian Salon and Hunter’s Hall.  During the last war the castle was destroyed and a network of underground tunnels was cut beneath it. In 1956 restoration work started and lasted over 30 years. It is now open to the public and parts are a hotel and restaurant and a venue for hosting cultural events. Ksiaz Castle – Walbrzych (woj.
