Polsat TV Superhit Festival 2018, Sopot (25/05/18 – 27/05/18)
The junior partner of the Tri-City set-up, along with Gdansk and Gdynia, the Baltic Sea spa town of Sopot is smack between Gdansk and Gdynia in Pomerania and just a few miles from each. A retreat for the rich and royal for centuries, Sopot’s air of exclusivity has remained even through the Communist era and the tiny town has undergone a building boom in recent years. Boasting beautiful beaches and fashionable resorts, Sopot is also known for its Wooden Pier, the longest in Europe, the charming Forest Opera among the trees and the lively Monte Cassino Street. Whatever Sopot has become, it certainly remains popular with international visitors mingling with the waffle-and-ice-cream crowds on hot summer days then getting down at the beachside clubs on balmy Baltic evenings. Sopot’s incarnation as a fashionable resort rose in 1823 when Jean Georges Haffner, a former doctor in Napoleon’s army, popularised sea-bathing here. The settlement, originally established in the 13th century as a fishing village, rapidly became the beach destination of the rich and famous, particularly after WWI when it was included in the territory of the Free City of Danzig. Since 1990 it once again become the playground of wealthy entrepreneurs and A-list celebrities, and remains unrivalled among the Baltic’s resorts for glitz and pretentiousness. The Polsat TV Superhit Festival, during which visitors will hear the best and most popular hits of Polish music and see their favorite artists, will take place at the Forest Opera in Sopot. It is a fantastic three days of the most popular Polish music and the best cabaret shows. The formula of the new Polsat TV Superhit Festival project includes all the latest music distribution trends by including record sales, mostly popular music played by radio stations and also paid and free music downloaded from the Internet onto mobile devices.
