Garlands over Vistula – sign of spring full of music and magic
On the 24th of June – on the first Saturday of summer holidays – real stars are going to shine brightly at Podzamcze. Among other artists, an icon of electronic music – DJ Afrojack – will appear at Garlands over Vistula this year. His participation in the biggest and the most popular Varsovian open-air event is an incredible happening for all concert participants.
Kupala Night full of stars
- Warsaw has been changing year by year. Thanks to the combination of the modern city ambience, interesting events and sights, together with Vistula river embankment full of atmosphere, Warsaw is becoming a place willingly explored by inhabitants and tourists. Similar variety awaits the audience of Garlands over Vistula because the schedule prepared by Stołeczna Estrada is very rich both in terms of music and folkloric references to ancient rites and Kupala Night’s rituals. This year’s list of participating artists is impressive and will attract a lot of Varsovians. Among the performers are: Xxanaxx, Vavamuffin, T-Love, O.S.T.R and the Dutch DJ and music producer – DJ AFROJACK – who has been dominating the DJs world for years. His performance is a guarantee of the energetic and spectacular show which will attract large audiences – says Andrzej Matusiak, the director of Stołeczna Estrada.
At the magic Kupala Night the stars must not fail us. Afrojack, one of the most innovative and captivating artists in the world, Grammy Award-winning producer, songwirter and DJ, is going to add splendour to this unique evening by giving a performance. At Garlands over Vistula, there cannot be any shortage of Polish music creators. This year’s Fryderyk Awards winner in the category: Hip Hop Album of the Year, O.S.T.R. is going to perform on the big stage as well as the electronic music artist – Varsovian duet Xxanaxx. The unstoppable band Vavamufin will immerse the audience into reggae vibes. The audience will have the opportunity to listen to T-Love group on its 35th anniversary. Moreover, it can be one of the last possibilities as, according to Muniek Staszczyk, the band is going to suspend their activity in 2018.
Day full of joy, magic, dance and folklor
Kupala Night’s rituals will take place in the early afternoon: braiding of both small and big garlands, simultaneously with the biggest one – Varsovian Kupala Night Garland which is eventually supposed to be 5 m in diameter. In the evening the garland will be launched on the Vistula river and it will float down with the river's current.
At the Historical Craft Fair, to the accompaniment of the folk group, we can look back on the old professions, watch handicraft and meet fair jugglers. Fairies from Avenue of Fortune-Telling will say how to find the dream fern flower.
At the picnic by the Vistula river, full of attractions, must not be the shortage of the old Warsaw ambient abundant with the unique Warsaw folklore. You have to visit kercelak – a bazaar in the pre-war style, where you can bump into the smart aleck, play in three cards, bargain with bazaar tradeswoman, have our shoes cleaned by the bootblack so that you can do well on the dance floor with the company of a fancy pants.
On the pier by the Karski Boulevard, a number of water attractions including cruises, races of a traditional rowing boat called hamburka, water skiing and wakeboarding will be held on the occasion of the Year of the Vistula River.
At midnight the sky above the Vistula river will be set alight by a fireworks show, which has already become Garlands over Vistula tradition. On the apogee of the show, an inscription reading I Wisła’, which was prepared for the occasion, will be launched.
Admission to all events is free.
Stołeczna Estrada, the Institution of Culture of the Capital City of Warsaw, is the organiser of the event.
