An extremely prestigious musical and cultural event to which renowned classical musicians from around the world are invited

This is a great artistic event which was initiated by Elzbieta Penderecka, the wife of famous Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki. The first Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival was organised in 1997 as part of the Krakow 2000 European City of Culture program in the year commemorating the 170th anniversary of the composer’s death. Since 2004 the festival has taken place in Warsaw. Since its inception the festival has gained the rank of large-scale events. Subsequent festivals have become one of the most important musical events in Europe. At each festival the components follow a particular adopted theme, in 1997 – Beethoven and his predecessors, in 2002 – Beethoven, Schubert and Chopin:  In Search of the Expression of their Existence, in 2003 – Beethoven and Baroque Music, in 2004 – Beethoven and Music of the European Peoples and in 2010 – Beethoven, Music and the Piano Phenomenon. Year of Chopin and Schumann.  The 15th Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival in 2011 had the theme “Beethoven and the Eternal Feminine” but it also commemorated two import anniversaries, the 200th anniversary  of the birth of Franz Liszt and the centenary of the death of Gustav Mahler.
