Antoni Wit told Polish Radio that the nomination is a great pleasure and that the artists involved in the Orchestra have once again been internationally recognized.
The Best Orchestral Performance nomination for the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra is for the performance of two symphonic pieces composed by Karol Szymanowski – Symphonies Nos. 1 & 4, composed in 1906/7 and 1932 respectively.
Wit received a second nomination as well for the direction of the two-part choral piece Utrejna (Entombment, 1970 and Ressurrection, 1971) composed by renowned Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki. The nomination, for best choral performance, recognizes the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the Warsaw Boys' Choir and the Warsaw Philharmonic Choir.
Both performances have been recorded for the NAXOS record label, a market leader in classical music pressings.
The Grammy Award ceremony takes place in February.
