Information

We invite you to participation in a traditional 'sękacz' baking, during which you could participate in preparing, baking and eating a cake! “Sękacz' is a traditional cake baked on Lithuania, in Suwałki nad in the northern part of the Biebrza valley. The beginnings of this cake reach the distant pagan times. It is considered as a ceremonial delicacy honouring holidays, weddings or other important celebrations. In the past it was a guest of the kings' and princes' tables as a kind of tribute. To make 'śękacz' you need a few dozens of eggs. Baking of 'sękacz' used to be a ritual, which gathered the whole family and which demanded great skills from the host. “Sękacz' is baked on the gridiron, each thin layer is grilled over fire. A few – hours hardship of preparations and baking is rewarded with a magnificent taste of this cake. The name 'sękacz' come from its unrepeatable shape – a cone with gnarls on the sides.
