The prices of bus tickets in Poland are similar to the prices of railway tickets. Young people and students are entitled to discounts on presentation of a valid identity card. Mini buses run between smaller localities and their fares are often competitive when compared to national bus line fares.
Tickets
Prices of tickets differ and depend on the type of transport you choose and on the route you travel. One way bus tickets are valid for one trip, naturally. If you have to change buses during your trip you will have to buy a ticket for the next bus. A ticket bought at a ticket office with the date and time of departure marked on it is valid only for the day and time marked. To buy cheaper ticket you can ask for special promotional prices and discounts at the ticket-office.
For a bus trip from the southern to the northern part of Poland (from the mountains to the sea) you will probably have to pay, depending on the type of transport, approx., PLN 60-100. From central Poland to many cities (e.g. from Warsaw to Krakow) - approx., PLN 40-50.
Where to buy?
It is advisable to buy tickets at a ticket office window at the bus station. It is possible to buy a ticket from the driver of the bus but you have to remember that when there are many passengers those who bought tickets at the station ticket office have priority. The tickets are numbered. So you usually get a seat. Unfortunately with some of the smaller bus companies this might not be the case. Be prepared, to stand!
Transport of animals and bicycles
You have to pay an additional charge for bicycle or any animal traveling with you. For more information concerning animals in particular ask at the information point in the station. Sometimes the transport of a bicycle can cause problems, especially when the bus is very crowded. Transport of animals by international coach
Now that Poland is in the European Union our four-legged fellow-travelers are obliged to have a passport. This regulation concerns dogs, cats and ferrets only. Passports are issued by veterinarians. The purpose of this document is the identification of an animal and the condition of its health. The passport contains information about the owner of the animal, a description of the animal with a photo, the animal species and a record of its vaccinations.
