OperaRara

The world premiere of Vivaldi's opera "L'Oracolo in Mesenia", a part of the Opera Rara festival, will be held on the 8th of December at the Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic Hall in Krakow. The concert will be aired by 17 radio stations.
Polifonte deceitfully kills Cresfont and all his children but the youngest, Epitide. He is snatched from the power of the tyrant and secretly sent to Merope, his mother and Cresfont's wife in Etolia. Polifonte then occupies the kingdom of Messenia and tries to appropriate it by making a marriage to Merope, upon whom Polifonte shifts the guilt for the death of her husband and children. The action of the drama begins when Epitide, secretly and under the false name 'Cleone', comes to his kingdom and tells his mother that on the route between Dauli and Delphi he met a young man who had been assaulted right before their meeting. Before dying, the young man had given him a jewel and a belt – royal insignia, asking Epitide/Cleone to return them to Merope (and upon seeing them she believed that her son died on the road). Since Cleone cannot hide his emotions while telling the story, Merope thinks that it was him who murdered her son. She tries to bring death on him, but in the end the true identity of the young man is revealed and he regains his kingdom. Merope is cleared of guilt and Polifonte loses the crown and his life.
