The joint project is set to go on sale on 13 March, through the Nonesuch label. Greenwood, whose solo work includes the soundtrack to the movie There will be Blood, is a long-standing admirer of the Polish composer. Last September, the two musicians joined forces for a concert at the European Culture Congress in Wroclaw, western Poland.
Speaking to Polish Radio prior to the performance, Greenwood explained his reverence for the 78-year-old Polish composer. "For me he's a real hero, because he learnt about electronic music and then went back to the orchestra, and made all these magical sounds using very old-fashioned technology," Greenwood enthused.
The recordings for the album were made in the wake of the congress, together with Poland's AUKSO Orchestra. Besides works by Penderecki, the album also includes pieces written by Greenwood that were directly inspired by the Polish master.
