On February 16th, the Polish Railways PKP presented an offer for the first stage of construction of High-Speed Railways connecting Wroclaw and Poznan with Lodz and Warsaw.
A consortium of chosen design companies, after signing their contracts, will be given 27 months for presenting a full documentation, later adopted in creating a tender for the subject executing the construction of the 450-kilometre-long fast railway line.
The works are scheduled to begin in 2014. Trains will run the new tracks in 2020, though the first stretch will be opened already in 2018. The whole project, including the building works and the purchase of 35 trains capable of achieving up to 360 km/h, is estimated at as high as 26 billion zlotys. The study of the project’s practicability will provide answers to questions concerning the exact routes that the railroads should run, and the persons responsible for their construction.
