The exhibition presents the latest in graphic art in the context of contemporary art in order to take a closer look at the state of the medium and weigh its role as a genre. The curators of the show argue that graphic art has lost its appeal, no longer featured on specialist or mainstream publications or websites as often. Yet the form continues to develop on its own, engaging new artists and singling out the most promising of the bunch.

Graf/o/mania refers to the urgent need these artists have for the type of work that they do. This passion drives the exhibition, urging the public to see where the genre is at the moment. Today's graphic artist struggles with limitations when it comes to material and grapples with the nonstop onset of technical progress, while constantly maintaining a focus on his or her role in a changing realm and the boundaries and broadened and redefined.

In spite of all change, graphic art maintains its traditions on the basis of its technique - transferring a concept onto a matrix for printing and achieving the final effect. The matrix has grown to include a wide array of materials, yet the matrix is always there. The heart of graphic design is the imagination, the ability to project an idea onto the final outcome, to turn an concept into a physical object - whether that is a piece of paper or three-dimensional sculpture. All facets of graphic art are explored - from the gallery wall to the street.

Curators Alicja Klimczak-Dobrzaniecka (BWA Wrocław Contemporary Art Galleries) and Jacek Szewczyk(Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław) have hand-picked their selection of the most interesting Polish artists exploring the notion and practice of graphic art, representing various approaches and continually broadening its boundaries.

The exhibition runs between the 13th of January-26th of February. It opens with a DJ performance by Spisek Jednego at 7 p.m.
