Bills and coins

The national currency in use in Poland is the Polish zloty (PLN). 1 zloty = 100 grosz.
All Polish coins and bank notes are issued by the National Bank of Poland (NBP) and are legal tender in Poland. You can change money in banks, at hotel reception desks and at money exchange outlets (‘kantor’).
Polish money takes the form of bills and coins.
Coins in circulation are for
1, 2 and 5 zloty and
1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 grosz,
Bills
10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 zloty.

Vision impaired persons will find ease to recognize each particular bank note denomination by a special mark in the lower left corner of each note. The shape of distinctive relief-like mark featuring convex edges corresponds with each particular bank note denomination:
10 zloty: square
20 zloty: circle
50 zloty: diamond
100 zloty: plus sign
200 zloty: triangle

Currency exchange

You can change money everywhere in Poland, particularly in cities, towns and at major tourist attractions. You will have no difficulty communicating in English or German at currency exchange points.
Where can I change money and at what times?

You can change money at a bank (these are usually open on weekdays from 9am to 3–6 pm) or at exchange outlets (‘kantor’), which depending on location, are usually open on weekdays from 9am to 6pm and at weekends until 1pm. In major cities like Warsaw, Krakow, Gdansk, Wroclaw, Poznan some of those exchange points are open 24/7.

Where are the best exchange rates?
It is better to change money at exchange outlets, in view of their better location (rail and bus stations, airports, shopping centres, tourist attractions, etc.), more flexible hours of operation, better exchange rates and no commissions/handling fees deducted.
