In 1108, Polish duke Boleslaus III founded a fortified settlement, nestled in a valley among the mountains. Such was the origin of today’s Jelenia Gora – a town of 900 years‘ history. Owing to numerous historic monuments, hot springs and picturesque location it is often called the Pearl of the Karkonosze Mountains. Does the town deserve this name? Come and see yourself...
All roads in the Old Town lead to the market square, which is surrounded by burgher houses with arcades, where the visitors are greeted by a bugle-call, played from the town-hall's tower. From here it is only a stone throw to the remnants of city walls, Gothic and baroque churches, streets with art. nouveau style houses, to castles and palaces. Our museums contain true treasures – the largest collection of artistic glassware in Poland, an interesting exhibition of birds and butterflies and much, much more.
Hot springs in Cieplice-spa – a district of Jelenia Gora, have been, for centuries, providing comofort to people suffering from motor organs, urinary tract, and eye illnesses. The treatment is supplemented by walks trough beautiful parks, and many cultural and tourist events.
Mountains and woods are visible from almost every point in the city, and one can reach them in just a couple minutes on foot. Journeys through the Karkonosze National Park and other landscape parks near the city limits are a great opportunity for close contact with nature.

For the active ones, we also offer bike trips, horse rallies, rock climbing and scenic flights. In winter, fans of skiing can visit the nearby Łysa Gora, with excellently prepared ski runs.

The Silesia Sonans Organ Festival, Vienna Music Festival, Krokus Jazz Festival, International Street Theatre Festival - these are only but a few picks from a rich calendar of events, each of them truly worth attending.
