Hailed by the New York Times as one of the best World Music groups, it promotes its latest CD 'Infinity', released earlier this year by the American Barbes Records label.
After gigs in Minneapolis and Milwaukee, the Warsaw Village Band is billed in Chicago tonight (Old Town School of Folk Music), before going to Pittsburgh (2 November), Toronto (4 Nov), Boston (6 Nov), Washington (7 Nov) and New York (8 Nov). The tour is organized by the Institute of Polish Culture in New York, Mondo Mundo and Barbes Records. The concert in New York is co-organized by the World Music Institute.
The Warsaw Village Band was founded in 1997 on the initiative of six musicians who in search of inspiration travelled through the Polish countryside, making recordings of folk festivities and village celebrations and learning from folk musicians. In its performances the group blends folk material with contemporary styles ranging from rock, blues, soul, jazz, reggae to electronic music.
The Warsaw Village Band has given over 400 concerts in 30 countries. Its successes include the World Music Award from BBC Radio Three (2004).
